The Adelaide Hills Farmers market (AHFM)
The AHFM was established by a group of dedicated Hills residents that had a vision to promote fresh, seasonal and regional food and to establish a community event that provides for an enjoyable experience when buying food.
The AHFM is a 'true farmers market' - it is a food only market that specialises in authentic, regional, fresh and seasonal product. The market offer a range of green and field vegetables, herbs, fruit, nuts, seeds and any product that can be grown or is made from primary products.
Customers can also buy fresh produce, flowers, plants, bread, eggs, meat and smallgoods, wine, juices, jams, condiments and chutneys, fresh pasta, olive oil and honey and anything else that is either grown or produced in the region. There is freshly ground coffee, hot food, pies and pasties and a terrific selection of vegetarian food offerings. The smells, colour and textures of the food are rich; all set in a quiet corner on the TAFE car park in Mt Barker, this friendly country market already has a very unique and special feel.
A vast variety of products!
Already over 50 stallholders set up 'shop' every Saturday morning and sell their goods to customers from 8am to midday. The colourful tents on the TAFE car park can be seen from the main road and locals and visitors to the region have already discovered this newly established friendly market.
Fresh, seasonal and local
The AHFM does not allow products that have been genetically modified, are out of season, travels significant ‘food miles’ or have been bought for resale (ie have been bought in large quantities at a store and are intended for resell at the AHFM). However, to support the farmers and growers in the Riverland region, who have been doing it tough for some time, the AHFM committee has decided that it will allow fruit at the AHFM in limited quantities.
What can the customer expect to find?
Customers can buy fresh, local and seasonal product while supporting the local economy. The AHFM offers membership to the public and at low $ 45 per year, or 85 cents a week. In return the customer will receive a massive 10% discount on all full priced products from every stallholder that sell at the market while enjoying a fun day out with the family, tasting fantastic food, listening to music and catching up with friends.
Who is behind the market?
The AHFM is an incorporated not-for-profit Association and operates in accordance with the Constitution of the AHFM as prescribed under the Associations Act 1985 with the main aim to act as a community event.
The Executive committee is made up of the independent Chair, Treasurer, Secretary and 6 members (2 growers, 2 value adders and 2 community representatives). The Executive committee is the legally responsible body for the operation of the market – The current committee works predominately on a volunteering basis and all Executives are dedicated local residents that bring a wealth of experience to the market.
For the day-to-day activities, a Market Manager has been appointed. All other activities are carried out by volunteers and friends of the market. We welcome people that wish to join us and make a difference.
Our food has a face
One of the major advantages that customers will experience is the direct contact with the persons that grow or make the food on offer. So, our food and produce has a face and we are proud of it.
The Adelaide Hills Farmers is a community event
and adds significant social, health and economic benefits to the region

In her early days of study, Erica was heavily involved the the establishment of The University of Adelaide Wine Club.
